ITHACA, N.Y.—
Sophomore Rebecca Johnston notched two goals in Cornell's 3-0 shutout over Yale on Saturday evening in Lynah Rink, while classmate Karlee Overguard recorded her second-consecutive game-winner to complete the Big Red's ECAC Hockey weekend sweep. Sophomore goaltender Kayla Strong made 25 saves in her first career shutout to help Cornell improve to a 4-2-1 overall record and 2-1-1 in league action. The victory marks the Big Red's first over Yale since the 2002-03 season.

The Big Red had its first power play opportunity of the game at 7:35 of the first period. With time winding down in the penalty, Karlee Overguard picked up the puck from the far blue line and charged into the Bulldogs' zone. Without hesitation, the sophomore forward launched a hard wrist shot straight over the left shoulder of goaltender Genny Ladiges and into the top corner of the net to put Cornell up 1-0 at 9:32.

The Bulldogs took two penalties within 34 seconds of each other late in the first to give Cornell a three-on-five advantage. Freshman Catherine White won the face off to set up the play for Cornell. Fellow rookie Amanda Young sent the puck to the center of the circles and found White, who passed it to Johnston. Johnston shot the puck at Ladiges who let off a rebound and scrambled to cover the puck. Johnston grabbed it at the right side of the crease and flipped it past the Bulldogs netminder.

The two teams were scoreless in the second period. Midway through the third, the teams were four-on-four, when Johnston skated in at the Yale goaltender and shot wide behind the goal. The sophomore forward grabbed her own rebound and slid a backhanded shot inside the left near post. Johnston's fourth goal of the weekend was recorded at 9:17 of the third period.

Strong earned her second win of the weekend in net for Cornell. Ladiges made 34 saves in the loss. Cornell scored two power-play goals in 10 chances, and Yale was 0-6. The Big Red outshot the Bulldogs 37-25.

Cornell will play its first ECAC Hockey road action next weekend as it travels to Dartmouth on Friday and Harvard on Saturday. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
