The Big Red women's ice hockey team tied Quinnipiac 2-2 on Saturday evening in ECAC Hockey action. Cornell improved to 2-2-1 overall and is 0-1-1 in league action, while Quinnipiac moved to 2-9-1 and 1-2-1 ECAC Hockey. Catherine White and Amber Moore scored for Cornell, and freshman defenseman Amanda Young assisted on both goals.

The Big Red and the Bobcats skated to a scoreless first period, with Cornell out shooting Quinnipiac 11-7.

Young grabbed the puck in the Big Red's defensive zone and passed it to her d-partner Moore. Moore skated the entire length of the ice through the Quinnipiac defenders, and with a wrist shot from the top of the circles gave Cornell a 1-0 lead at 2:58 of the second.

The Big Red was on the power play a little under six minutes later when Young shot from the high circles and a huge rebound came off of the pads of goaltender Tia Wishart. The puck came right to White on the right side of the net, and the rookie shot the puck into a wide open goal to put Cornell up 2-0.

Penalties plagued the Big Red midway through the second, and Quinnipiac was awarded with a five-on-three advantage. Janine Duffy shot the puck at Cornell netminder Kayla Strong, but the rebound went right to Elyse Cole who buried it in the Big Red net at 10:36 of the second. A little over a minute later, the Bobcats were still on the power play when Cole found a rebound from Melissa Perry to tie the game at two all.

Cornell and Quinnipiac ended regulation tied, and neither team was able to score in overtime.

Strong made 27 saves in net for the Big Red, while Wishart made 33.

Quinnipiac was two-for-seven on the power play, while Cornell was one-for-two.

The Big Red will continue home play next weekend as it welcomes Brown and Yale to Lynah Rink.
