MANHATTAN, Kan.—The Big Red volleyball team opened its season on Friday night at the Kansas State Invitational, and dropped a close 3-1 match to Liberty. Junior
Juliana Rogers led the Big Red with 16 kills. Liberty improves to 8-0 for the season.
With seven matches under its belt, a seasoned Liberty squad jumped out to a quick lead in the first set and continued to a 25-16 advantage. Cornell pulled ahead early in the second with a 15-10 edge, but the Flames came back to win, 25-21. The Big Red took the lead in the third set and never looked back and came within a set with a 25-17 win. The fourth set saw both teams battle back and forth for points, but Liberty inched ahead to a 24-22 lead. Cornell came back to tie the set at 24, but with kills by Nicki Scripko and Kallie Corbin, Liberty took the set to win the match.

Emily Borman joined Rogers to lead the Big Red with 11 kills of her own. Sophomore
Erin McCarthy added 10 kills and 10 digs. Junior libero
Megan Mushovic notched 22 digs and two aces. Senior
Hilary Holland totaled 44 assists and nine digs.
Liberty was led by Scripko with 14 kills and Chelaine McCarty with nine. Kelly Hasemen led the Flames' defense with 18 digs.
The Big Red will be back in action on Saturday, when it will play Kansas State at 1 p.m.
