TROY, N.Y. -- Unbeaten in its last nine games, the Cornell men's hockey team will try to make it 10 tonight when the Big Red takes on Rensselaer in an ECAC Hockey contest at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. Saturday night's game can be seen on Time Warner Sports in the Albany and Central New York areas and heard on WHCU 870 AM in the Ithaca area. Additionally, live streaming audio of the game will be available through the Cornell RedCast subscription service as Jason Weinstein provides the play-by-play.
FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP
Cornell won its fourth straight and remained unbeaten in its last nine games with a 4-1 victory at Union at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y. Sophomore
Riley Nash had a goal and two assists while junior
Blake Gallagher picked up two assists on the night. Also finding the back of the net were
Mike Devin,
Evan Barlow and
Sean Collins, with Collins scoring the first point of his Cornell career with his third-period marker.
Ben Scrivens picked up 28 saves in the game as the Big Red improved to 7-0-2 in ECAC Hockey action and moved into a tie with Princeton for first place with 16 points. The Cornell power play went 2-for-4 on the night to raise the season average to 16.8 percent, while the penalty-killing unit was 1-for-7 to move the season average to 89.5 percent.
THIS IS SPORTSCENTER
While senior
Evan Barlow scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal on the power play in the first period on Friday night, it was his effort on the other end of the ice that found him on SportsCenter. With Cornell goaltender
Ben Scrivens at the bench on a delayed penalty call, the Big Red was in control of the puck in the neutral zone. A backwards pass from
Riley Nash missed its mark, and the puck went slowly skidding along toward the Cornell goal. Barlow slipped twice but regained his feet and got enough momentum to make a diving effort to sweep the puck to the side of the goal post with just a foot and a half to go before crossing the goal line. That play wound up as the number nine play on Friday night's SportsCenter.
THREE FOR ALL
Riley Nash's three-point outing not only moved him into a tie with
Colin Greening for a team-leading 14 points, it also was the first three-point performance for the Big Red this season. Entering Friday night's game, 17 different multi-game performances were had, with Greening and Nash leading the way with three. Nash added his fourth multi-point game of the season and became the first player to record three points in a game since
Michael Kennedy tallied three assists in the ECAC Hockey consolation game on March 22, 2008.

Freshman
Sean Collins became the final skater among this season's freshman class to find the scoring column with his goal in the Big Red's 4-1 win over Union on Friday night. Collins scored in the third period to put the Big Red ahead, 3-1, helping to seal the victory. With the goal, only
Taylor Davenport and
Derek Punches have yet to find the scoring column this season.
FIFTH TO THIRD
Friday night's win moved Cornell head coach
Mike Schafer into a tie for third place among active ECAC Hockey coaches for the most victories in a career. With 266, Schafer is now tied with Dartmouth's Bob Gaudet and is now just nine wins out of second place, held by Rand Pecknold of Quinnipiac. Schafer began the season in fifth place but has surpassed Colgate's Don Vaughan on his way to tying Gaudet. St. Lawrence coach Joe March has 426 in his 24th season behind the bench, while Schafer, in his 14th season, has the shortest tenure of the top five.
UP NEXT
Cornell returns to Lynah Rink for a two-game Ivy League/ECAC Hockey set next weekend. The Big Red opens play against Yale in a 7 p.m. contest before facing Brown in another 7 p.m. start.
