ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell volleyball team showed flashes of excellence, but not enough to top Yale in a 3-0 Bulldog victory on Friday evening at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall. The visitors took home a 26-24, 25-23, 25-14 triumph to improve to 13-2 (3-1 Ivy), while Cornell slipped to 5-11 (2-3 Ivy).

Freshman Deveney Pula had nine kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two service aces in a balanced effort, while Juliana Rogers had six kills and four blocks. Jordan Reeder led the team with 23 assists and Megan Mushovic notched 16 digs. Cornell hit .139 for the match.

Kelly Ozurovich posted a match-high 25 digs and Kerry Clavadetscher recorded 34 assists, six digs and three blocks. Yale hit .239 for the match and served tough with seven total aces.

Cornell took early leads in each of the first two sets, but Yale rallied in each to go up 2-0 with narrow two-point victories. Pula was a force in set one, registering four kills, four digs and three blocks. Overall, Cornell out-hit Yale .220 to .186 in the set. The Big Red's hitting slipped to .119 in game two, but kept within the game throughout. Cornell rallied from a 16-10 deficit to tie it up at 19-19, 20-20, 22-22 and 23-23 before an attack error and a Yale block put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

The Bulldogs bucked the trend in game three, forcing an early Big Red timeout by going up 9-6, then extended the lead to as much as eight (18-10) as Cornell again was forced to call for time. The Big Red rally wouldn't come late, as Yale closed out the game strong to earn the decisive set, scoring six of the final seven points to claim victory.

Cornell will face Brown tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Newman Arena at Bartels Hall.
