Men's Polo Hits The Road To Face Defending National Champ Virginia

10/29/2009 10:29:48 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. - Longtime men's polo rivals Cornell and Virginia will meet for the first time in the 2009-10 season when the Big Red travels to Charlottesville, Va., on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Virginia Polo Center.

Cornell will take a perfect 3-0 record into what will likely be the first of several matchups with the defending national champion Cavaliers this season. The two teams have played at least twice in each season dating back to the 1978-79 season, with Virginia leading 56-39-2. The Cavaliers won all four meetings between the teams a season ago, handing Cornell four of its five losses on the year. Cornell's last victory came in 2007-08, a 16-15 nail-biter in the national semifinals.

Through three games, senior Max Constant scored 20 goals, including 12 against Connecticut in his last outing, while freshmen Branden Van Loon (17 goals) and Connor Pardell (10 goals) are also in double figures. The squad's 3-0 start this year is its best since the 2006-07, when the Big Red began the year 5-0.
