NEW YORK, N.Y.—The Big Red men's tennis team was edged out by Columbia, 4-3, in its Ivy opener on Saturday afternoon. Cornell moves to 9-4 overall for the season and 0-1 against the Ivy League.
Columbia opened the day by sweeping doubles play to earn the point. Jon Jaklitsch won his first set over Jon Wong, 7-6, before his opponent rallied to tie the match with a 6-2 win in the next set. Jaklitsch sealed his win with a 6-0 victory in the third. At No. 4 singles, Jeremy Feldman defeated Ekin Sezgen, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 in a super tie break. At the No. 6 spot, Marc Asch defeated Rajeev Deb-Sen, 6-4, 6-4. With the teams splitting singles action, the Lions' wins in doubles proved to be the deciding point.
Cornell will remain on the road next weekend to play at Dartmouth and Harvard.
