Men's Polo Wraps Up Season in National Semifinals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Big Red men's polo team wrapped up its season on Thursday in the semifinals of the national championships. Cornell was edged out by the defending champions, Texas A&M, 20-14. The Big Red finishes with a 16-5 overall record.

The Aggies quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first chukker and continued to stretch their advantage to 9-1 with a little over three minutes left in the second. Rich Weidel's second goal ignited the Big Red comeback and Cornell shrunk Texas A&M's lead to 9-7 going into the third.

The two teams traded goals early in the third and the Big Red completed its comeback to tie the score at 11 all. The teams traded goals back and forth once again in the fourth and everything was tied at 14 at the 3:10 mark when a break was taken for the horses.

The Aggies came out of the break and scored twice to take a 16-14 lead with just over a minute left in the match. Texas A&M scored four more goals to finish to win a 20-14 victory.
