ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell volleyball team lost to Colgate, 3-1, in the opening match of the Cornell Invitational this evening at Newman Arena. With the loss, the Big Red falls to 2-5, while the Raiders improve to 2-6 on the year.
Deveney Pula led the attack with 15 kills on 52 attacks, while
Alessa Cekauskas chipped in 10 kills on 29 attempts for a .172 kill percentage.
Jessica Misse posted the best kill percentage for the team (.316), registering seven kills and just one error on 19 attempts.
Jordan Reeder ran the offense, registering 29 assists and four kills on 11 attempts. She also added six digs and three block assists.
Lucy Zheng also tallied 15 assists and seven digs on the evening.
Defensively,
Megan Mushovic registered a match-best 25 digs, while Pula added 11.
The Raiders were led by Kaleigh Durket's 12 kills, while Kaylee Dougherty and Maureen Colligan had 10 kills each. Meghan Fanta posted 29 assists and Devon Applegate tallied 24 digs.
Colgate took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-13, before the Big Red earned a hard-fought 26-24 victory in the third. Unfortunately, despite another evenly played set, the Raiders came out on top, 25-22.
