ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest to St. John's on Saturday morning to open up the second day of action at the Cornell Invitational at Newman Arena. The Red Storm won the three-set match by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 to improve to 5-8 on the season, while Cornell falls to 2-6.
Alice Cope led the way for the Big Red, picking up 10 kills in 22 attempts with just two errors for a team-best .364 hitting percentage, as Cornell hit .118 as a team.
Jordan Reeder had 26 assists while
Erin McCarthy picked up 11 digs. The Big Red tallied 10 blocks in the match, with
Juliana Rogers assisting on a team-best six of those.
For St. John's, Darlene Radmin had a match-high 16 kills, while Kun Song added 10 for the Red Storm. Song also had a .409 hitting percentage, as the Red Storm hit .224 for the three-game match. Gabriela Petkova had 32 assists, while Ashley Asing had a match-high 13 digs. The Red Storm also picked up nine blocks.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday night, closing out the Cornell Invitational with a 7 p.m. match against Buffalo at Newman Arena. The match will follow the night's first match between St. John's and Colgate.
