ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Kyle Parsons scored a goal with just under eight minutes left in regulation to lift the Cornell men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Hartwick on Monday night. The Big Red evened its record at 1-1 on the year, while Hartwick fell to 1-1-1.

The victory, while evening the Big Red's record, was the first in the coaching career of head coach Jaro Zawislan. The win also snapped an 11-game losing skid for the Big Red, dating back to Sept. 21, 2008, a 2-1 win at Lafayette.

Following a scoreless first half, the Big Red battled with the Hawks for the second half until junior Shane Merriman crossed the ball into the box to Caldwell, who played the ball toward the goal, where it was redirected into the far post by Parsons. The late tally at the 83rd minute mark held up as the Big Red held the Hawks without a shot for the final eight minutes.

Junior netminder Scott Brody made eight saves for his first shutout of the season and second of his career. Brody's first career clean sheet also came against Hartwick during his freshman season, a 1-0 victory on Nov. 7, 2007 in Ithaca. Vuolo made three saves in taking the loss for the Hawks.

The Big Red returns to action on Friday, closing out the three-game road trip to open the 2009 season when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. contest at Canisius. Cornell opens up its home season on Sunday, Sept. 13, when it takes on St. Bonaventure in a 4 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
