CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A pair of goals scored seven and a half minutes apart marked the difference as Cornell dropped an Ivy League contest at Harvard on Saturday afternoon by a 2-0 margin at Ohiri Field in Cambridge, Mass. The loss sends Cornell to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in Ivy League play, while Harvard improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Harvard got onto the scoreboard at the 17:32 mark of the match when Lindsey Kowal scored her first goal of the year, knocking home a shot off a free kick past Cornell netminder
Kelly Murphy. At the 25:00 mark of the match, Kerry Kartsonis made the score 2-0 when she knocked home a shot off a corner kick from Alexandra Conigliaro.
Murphy made one save in the first half for the Big Red before being relieved at the break by
Megan Bartlett. Bartlett stopped four shots in the second half to keep the Crimson off the scoreboard as Cornell fought to get back into the game.
Jessica Wright stopped three shots in earning the shutout victory for the Crimson, with all three saves coming in the second half.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday when the Big Red plays host to Yale in a 4 p.m. contest at Berman Field in Ithaca.
