ITHACA, N.Y. -- Braden Birch, Nick D'Agostino, Locke Jillson and Sean Whitney each scored a goal as the Cornell men's hockey team scored a 4-1 win over Quinnipiac in an ECAC Hockey contest on Friday night at Lynah Rink. Mike Garman collected 23 saves in the victory for the Big Red (2-3, 2-1 ECAC Hockey) while Quinnipiac falls to 4-4-1 on the year and 0-2-1 in ECAC Hockey action.

Jordan Kary, Mike Devin, Justin Mowrey, John Esposito, Keir Ross, Dan Nicholls and Rodger Craig each chipped in an assist on the night for the Big Red, as 11 different skaters found the scoresheet. Garman collected his first career win with the 23-save performance, stopping 11 shots in the first period and six in both the second and third for the win. Cornell finished the night scoreless in three power-play chances.

For Quinnipiac, Connor Jones scored an unassisted goal in the second period, while Dan Clarke stopped 12 of the 16 shots he faced on the night. The Bobcats were scoreless in three power-play chances.

Cornell took a 2-0 lead after one period, with Birch and D'Agostino both finding the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes. Birch got the Big Red on the scoreboard with his first career goal, taking the puck off a faceoff win by Jordan Kary and, after waiting for traffic to build in front of Clarke, fired a shot that somehow found its way through the mass of bodies parked in front of the Quinnipiac goal and inside the far post. Four and a half minutes later, D'Agostino doubled the score with his goal, a shot from the point that was partially stopped by Clarke but trickled just across the goal line to send the Big Red to the dressing room up, 2-0.

In the second, it was Quinnipiac's Connor Jones who picked up a loose puck and ripped a shot past Garman just five minutes into the period, but Locke Jillson restored the two-goal lead 43 seconds later, redirecting a shot past the outstretched leg of Clarke off a pass from John Esposito to put the Big Red ahead, 3-1, a lead it would carry into the second intermission.

Sean Whitney added to the margin late in the third period, taking a pass from Dan Nicholls on the cycle and slipping a shot past Clarke for the 4-1 final score.

Cornell returns to action on Saturday, taking on Princeton in a 7 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
