ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell rallied in the fourth chukker, but couldn't overcome a seven-goal deficit and dropped an 18-17 contest to Connecticut on Saturday evening. The Big Red trailed 17-10 entering the fourth and nearly came all the way back in slipping to 1-1 on the young season.
The Huskies, who have been Cornell's main regional rival for a number of years, got out of the gates quickly. UConn put up five goals before the Big Red tallied its first. Five more went on the board for UConn before Cornell's next goal to make it 10-2. Cornell finally woke up in the last 3 minutes of the second and matched UConn with three goals to keep the difference at eight goals with a score of 13-5 at the half. The third chukker saw life out of the Big Red as it closed to within five goals, only to give a couple back and make it 17-10 heading into the fourth. Revived, the Big Red made a solid run at the Huskies in the fourth but came up just short as it outscored UConn 7-1 in the chukker, but lost 18-17.
