SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Cornell scored four straight goals to rally from an early deficit to take a 4-1 victory at Syracuse on Tuesday night at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y.
Lauriane Rougeau had a pair of assists on the night to pace the Big Red, which improved to 11-1 on the season.
For Syracuse, Kelly Dimmen scored the only goal of the night with an assist to Stefanie Marty. Syracuse goaltender Kallie Billadeau made 57 saves in the losing effort for Syracuse, which was scoreless in four power-play chances.
Syracuse got on the board first, just the second time this season that the Big Red has conceeded the first goal of the game. The Orange's Stefanie Marty sent a pass to the center point for Kelly Dimmen, and her shot found its way through a mass of traffic in front of the net and went over the shoulder of Mazzotta as the Orange took a 1-0 lead at the 8:06 mark of the first period. That lead lasted just five minutes as Fortino worked a give-and-go at the blue line with
Karlee Overguard and back-handed a shot over the glove side of Billadeau at the 13:07 mark of the period, as the first period ended with the two teams tied at one.
The Big Red took the lead at the 7:51 mark of the second period when Ogilvie fed Johnston with the puck behind the Syracuse goal, and Johnston fed Jenner in front, with the freshman's one-timer slipping past Billadeau for the 2-1 lead.
Hughes made the score 3-1 with her goal at 13:41 of the second period, tipping home a shot from center point by Rougeau, who picked up the puck from Campbell.
Karpenko then added to the score with her goal at the 8:12 mark of the third period, cleaning up a rebound in front of the goal off a shot from the point by Rougeau.
Cornell returns to action on Friday, returning to Lynah Rink to open up a weekend series against the North Country foes, taking on St. Lawrence on Friday at 3 p.m. before battling Clarkson on Saturday at the same start time.
