ITHACA, N.Y. -- John Esposito and Greg Miller tallied goals in the second period as the Cornell men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red closes out the fall semester with a 4-6-1 mark, while Huntsville moves to 2-12-2.

Kirill Gotovets, Joe Devin and Locke Jillson each tallied an assist for the Big Red, who got 18 saves from Andy Iles in goal. The Big Red finished the night 1-for-7 on the power play.

Jamie Easton picked up a goal and an assist for the Chargers, while Keenan Desmet picked up a goal and Mac Roy and Tom Durnie both added an assist. John Griggs got the start and made 36 saves for Alabama-Huntsville, which went 1-for-6 on the power play.

UAH got on the board first in the first period when Easton sprung Desmet, who was just coming off the bench on a line change, on a breakaway behind the Cornell defense, and Desmet slipped the puck through the legs of Iles for the early lead at the 11:30 mark of the first period.

In the second, Cornell got on the board at the 17:06 mark when Esposito scored his goal, jamming home a loose puck amid a pile of bodies in front of the goal after a shot from Gotovets was stopped by Griggs. Less than a minute later, Cornell got a power-play tally when Jillson fed Miller across the crease with a pass, and Miller easily fired the puck into the gaping net.

Huntsville got the tying goal at the 3:01 mark of the third period when Easton took a pass from Roy, skated in between a trio of Cornell defensemen and fired a low shot that found its way through the legs of Iles, knotting the score at two. Cornell could not get the game-winning goal despite spending the final minute of regulation and the first four minutes of the overtime period on the power play after Desmet was issued a major for hitting from behind in front of the referee near the Cornell goal.

The Big Red takes a three and a half week break for exams and for the holidays, returning to action on Dec. 29 against St. Cloud State in the opening game of the Florida College Classic in Estero, Fla.
