HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to St. Bonaventure on Friday in the opening game of the Colgate Nike Classic in Hamilton, N.Y. Junior Brook Chang scored the lone goal of the match for the Big Red, which fell to 1-2 on the year with the loss.

The Bonnies (3-3) struck for three goals in the first half, with Chang's goal coming in the 58th minute to cut the Cornell deficit to 3-1. Despite carrying much of the play in the second half, the Big Red could not cut further into the deficit and fell for the second time on the year.

St. Bonaventure took the lead in the 19th minute when Anna Cunningham put a high shot in past junior goalkeeper Megan Bartlett. The Bonnies added to the lead six and a half minutes later when Tori Burchett put a shot in from the top of the box. Shannon van Riper made the score 3-0 for St. Bonaventure in the 40th minute when her shot curled into the far post of the goal.

Cornell came out playing much better in the second half, and the Big Red's work paid off in the 58th minute when sophomore Maneesha Chitanvis played a through-ball to Chang, who ran onto the ball, collected it and dribbled around St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Megan Junker, slipping the ball into the open goal as Cornell broke into the scoring column.

Bartlett finished the match with seven saves, while Junker made one save in the second half after St. Bonaventure starter Nicole Markert stopped the only shot on goal she faced in the first half.

Cornell returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Seton Hall in a noon contest at Van Doren Field in Hamilton, N.Y.
