Oakland Defeats Volleyball at Best Western Falcon Plaza Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – At the second day of the Best Western Falcon Plaza Invitational, the Big Red volleyball team fell to Oakland University, 3-0. The Golden Grizzlies took the match in straight-sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-16. The game is the first of the day for Cornell, which will face IPFW at 4:30 p.m.

Cornell (1-4) was led by Kelly Hansen and Janel Forte, who turned in identical performances with both registering seven kills with just two errors on 21 attempts for a .238 hitting percentage. Setter Jordan Reeder handed out 26 assists to go along with six digs, three block assists and two kills. Defensively, Risa Ka'awa tallied a team-high 19 digs.

Oakland (4-6) had four players with more than seven kills, led by Allison Bell's 10. Bell was also the most efficient hitter on the day with only one error on 18 attempts (.500). Ashley Nevelle finished the match with 33 assists, while a trio of Grizzlies – Brittany Dunn (16), Ashleigh Slemmer (11), Alli Kirk (10) – had more than 10 digs each.
