ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's soccer team struck for three goals in a span of 3:40 to cap a dramatic comeback from a two-goal deficit, downing visiting Hartwick, 3-2, on Monday night at Berman Field. The win moves Cornell to 1-1 on the young season, while Hartwick falls to 0-2 on the year.

Freshman Daniel Haber had a huge night, scoring the equalizing goal and picking up an assist on junior Will Ogden's game-winner just 1:21 later. Franck Onambele also scored for the Big Red, with Jimmy Lannon and Craig Dimbleby both chipping in assists on the night. Sophomore goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer made one save in earning his first victory of the year.

For Hartwick, Dan Summers and Steven Amaya scored goals, while netminder Jake Wright stopped five shots in taking the loss.

Following an even first half that featured even play despite Cornell holding a 7-2 edge in shots, it was Hartwick that broke onto the scoreboard first in the second half. In the 54th minute, Cornell was called for a foul in the penalty area, giving a penalty kick to the Hawks. Summers stepped up to take the kick, but his shot to the right of Pflasterer was initially stopped by the sophomore netminder, but the rebound came right back to Summers, who calmly slotted the ball into the open goal.

In the 70th minute, Amaya doubled the Hawk lead but collecting a bouncing ball in the penalty area, and striking a shot that beat Pflasterer to his left, and it appeared as though Hartwick was in full control of the match.

At the 76:08 mark of the match, Cornell had a throw-in deep in the Hartwick end, and Lannon's throw into traffic found the head of Onambele, and he redirected the ball into the goal, cutting the deficit in half. Just 1:19 later, Dimbleby, with the ball on the right wing, sent a cross to the far post of the goal where a wide-open Haber calmly headed the ball past Wright, knotting the score at two.

The dramatics weren't over, however, as just 1:21 later, Haber found himself with the ball at the top of the penalty area, surrounded by Hartwick players. Composed, Haber turned and passed the ball to an oncoming Ogden, who settled the ball and slipped a shot under the oncoming Wright, giving Cornell its first lead of the night.

From there, Cornell was able to kill off the rest of the match, as Hartwick sent all 10 field players forward, yet the Big Red defense was able to clear away any chance the Hawks had at knotting the game at three.

Cornell returns to action on Friday when it travels to Burlington, Vt., to open the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic with a 1:30 p.m. contest against New Hampshire. The Big Red closes out the tournament on Sunday against the host Catamounts.
