SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead and matched that result in the second half for a dominating 44-0 victory over Skidmore on Sunday afternoon. The contest was the Big Red's first shutout this decade as the team moved to 1-0.

With the Big Red retooling and trying to figure out just who fits where, the Thoroughbreds bore the brunt of Cornell's first foray into different lineups. Connor Pardell, Branden Van Loon, and Nick Feldman started for the Big Red. Cornell never looked back from the first throw-in on their way to a 10-0 lead after the first chukker. Feldman led Cornell with six goals. Pardell gave way in the second to Nick Stieg and Cornell continued to roll. Feldman tallied six more goals to lead the team to a 22-0 halftime lead. The players rotated for three chukkers each with Feldman down the third and Van Loon in the fourth as Cornell would go on for the shutout. Feldman led the Big Red with 16 goals, with Van Loon picking up 10. Stieg tallied nine in his first collegiate contest, Pardell scored eight and there was one penalty goal.

Cornell will face a huge early test when it travels to defending national champion Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
