ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's polo teams will close out the 2011 fall semester by facing Ivy League foe Yale this weekend at Oxley Equestrian Center. Looking to build some new momentum heading into the break, the men will battle the Bulldogs on Friday at 7:30 p.m., while the women play host to Yale on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The women's polo team is off to a 4-3 start, dropping its last contest to Kentucky 19-18 in a shootout in the semifinals of the Bill Field Invitational. Cornell leads the all-time series against the Bulldogs 78-18 (56-4 since 1989-90). The two teams met once last season, with Cornell earning a 34-0 triumph at Oxley. In the last two matchups, the Big Red has outscored the Bulldogs 69-0.
The men bring a 4-3 overall record into the contest, but have gone 3-1 at home. Cornell dropped a 25-22 contest to Colorado State at Oxley in its last match on Nov. 19 in the semifinals of the Field Invitational. Since the 1978-79 season, Cornell has posted a 74-5-1 record against Yale. The last time the two squads met, the Big Red earned a 29-7 triumph over the Bulldogs during the 2009-10 season.
