ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell softball team will look to get back on track while playing for a great cause this weekend when the Big Red compete in the George Mason Cherry Blossom Classic this weekend in Fairfax, Va. Cornell will be wearing pink in its game against the Patriots on Saturday, March 19 at 5:15 p.m. at the GMU Softball Complex. Cornell will also meet Howard, Albany and Monmouth during the three-day event.
The Big Red, with the assistance if PSP Unlimited who helped provide the pink jerseys and hats, will be playing in support of the Cancer Resource Center of the Fingerlakes. For more information on the organization, please click the link here.
Cornell will also plan on wearing pink during its contest against Liberty on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
The Big Red is off to a 2-4 start and have lost three straight, including a pair of one-run, extra-inning games. Senior Elizabeth Dalrymple, the two-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, has posted a 1-2 record with a 0.65 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings in the circle. As a team, the Big Red has a solid 1.42 ERA. A young Big Red lineup is batting .232, with Marissa Amiraian leading the way among regulars with a .316 average and a .409 on-base percentage. In all, eight different first-year players have earned starts in the field for the Big Red thus far.
