BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Cornell softball team took an early lead in game two, but Virginia Tech was able to rebound and sweep a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, topping the Big Red 9-0 in game one before taking a 6-3 decision in the nightcap. Both games ended in five innings, the first on the eight-run rule, the second due to lightning in the area. Cornell slipped to 5-9-1 with the losses, while the Hokies improved to 21-8.

Both Jenny Edwards and Kristen Towne slammed home runs in the third inning of game two as the Big Red took a 3-0 advantage, but the Hokies scored five in the fourth to take the lead. Both Towne and Marissa Amiraian had a pair of hits for the Big Red, while Alyson Onyon allowed just three hits and two runs in her 3.0 innings of work in the circle.

In game one, the Big Red could only muster a second inning single by Cassie Walisiak as the Hokies scored four runs in both the second and fourth inning to run away with the victory. Kenzie Roark allowed just the one hit while striking out six in improving to 10-5 on the season. Virginia Tech's Kristen Froehlich slammed a three-run homer in the fourth to cap the scoring for the home team.
