CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second-straight season, the Big Red men's tennis team defeated Harvard, 4-3, this evening at the Murr Center Courts in Cambridge, Mass. With the win, its third straight, the Big Red improved to 18-4 overall and 1-0 in the Ivy League. The Crimson, on the other hand, had a four-match winning streak snapped as it slipped to 11-8 overall (0-1 Ivy).
Harvard got off to an early 1-0 lead, picking up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, but
Andy Gauthier evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Aba Omodele-Lucien at No. 2 singles.
Wins by No. 5 Casey MacMaster and No. 3 Alistair Felton over
Evan Bernstein and
Mirza Klis, respectively, put the Crimson up, 3-1, but the Big Red fought back with three straight victories to take the 4-3 triumph.
The comeback began when No. 1
Jonathan Jaklitsch defeated Jonathan Pearlman and No. 4
Jeremy Feldman downed Andy Nguyen in a three-set thriller.
Evan McElwain then sealed the win for the Big Red with a three set victory of his own, defeating Joshua Tchan at the No. 6 spot, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The Big Red is back in action tomorrow as it travels to Hanover, N.H., to take on the Big Green at the Boss Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
