NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Senior
Ali Tomlinson blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Big Red a 2-1 comeback victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon at CU Softball Stadium. Game two was postponed until Monday (the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.) at a time to be determined. Cornell improved to 17-16-1 (6-3 Ivy), while the Lions fell to 9-23 (1-8 Ivy).
Tomlinson's hit came after
Christina Villalon reached as the leadoff hitter on an error. Tomlinson took a 3-2 pitch and drove it to right, saving another outstanding outing from two-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year
Elizabeth Dalrymple, and ruining a fin outing by Columbia's Prophet Gaspard.
Dalrymple scattered eight hits in her complete game victory, striking out five to lower her season ERA to 1.36. Her lone mistake pitch turned into a leadoff home run by Maggie Johnson in the sixth, putting the home team up 1-0. The Lions threatened in the bottom of the seventh after a one out double by Snodgrass, but Dalrymple retired the final two batters to improve to 11-5 on the year.
Cornell mustered just three hits, but was flawless in the field. Villalon and
Marissa Amiraian each had a hit for the Big Red, which continues to lead the South Division with the victory.
Gaspard struck out six and allowed just the three hits for the Lions, while Jennifer Bergeron was 2-for-3 at the plate.
