Game 1 Box Score (Princeton 3, Cornell 2 - 8 innings)
Game 2 Box Score (Cornell 9. Princeton 6)
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Cornell softball team earned a doubleheader split on Friday afternoon, falling to a Tiger rally 3-2 in eight innings in the first game before responding with a 9-6 win in game two. The Big Red moved to 25-19-1 (10-6 Ivy), while the Tigers are now 15-25 (6-12 Ivy). The Big Red currently has a two-game lead on Penn and after Sunday's results, a decision to make up the postponed doubleheader against Penn will be made.
In game two, Cornell scored four times in the first, watched the Tigers claw back to 4-4, then scored two in the third and three more in the fifth to claim the win. Dalrymple picked up the win in the nightcap despite allowing nine hits and two walks in 5.0 innings. She gutted out the win not long after throwing more than 150 pitches in the game one extra-inning affair, and was backed up in a big way by Ali Tomlinson. The senior picked up her classmate with two innings of one-hit ball to earn her first save of the season.
Kristen Towne was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the nightcap as Cornell collected 10 hits. Lauren Bucolo was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, including a home run.
Cornell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one, only to watch the Tigers rally. Princeton capped the win with the walk-off single by Lizzy Pierce in the eighth. Peyton reached on a singled with one out, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pierce then delivered a single through the left side to give the home team the victory.
Dalrymple scattered seven hits over 7.1 innings, striking out 12. Michelle Tolfa was just as impressive, scattering seven hits in eight innings. She struck out just three, but didn't allow any Big Red batters to collect multiple hits. Marissa Amiraian had a triple, her seventh of the season, to drive in the first Big Red run. That tied a single-season school record and is tied for the fifth-most triples in a season by any Ivy player.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, May 1 at 12:30 p.m. at Niemand*Robison Field.
