CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A nearly three hour rain delay wasn't enough to slow down Harvard and junior pitcher Rachel Brown as the Crimson took a 1-0 lead in the Ivy League championship series with a 5-0 victory over Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Soldier's Field. Game two of the best-of-three series was postponed until Sunday at 11 a.m., with a deciding game three played immediately following if necessary. The Crimson improved to 35-14, while Cornell slipped to 27-21-1.

Brown hurled a complete-game, three-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead the Crimson, whileShelbi Olson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and both Stephanie Regan and Kasey Lange finished 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Ashley Heritage drove in two runs. The hot-hitting Crimson managed just one extra-base hit, but were able to nickel and dime their way to single runs in the first and third, then three more in the fifth to put the game on ice.

Marissa Amiraian, Kristen Towne and Sam Creamer each had hits, with Towne registering a double. Jenny Edwards walked twice. Lauren Marx pitched 1.1 innings of perfect relief after starter Elizabeth Dalrymple was pulled. The senior surrendered eight hits and four earned runs in 4.2 innings of work in taking the loss.
