Volleyball Drops A Pair Of Matches To Buffalo, Syracuse

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Big Red volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today, falling to Buffalo and Syracuse at the Blue and White Classic, held at the University at Buffalo's Alumni Arena. Senior setter Jordan Reeder was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the first match of the day, Buffalo (7-5) earned the close-fought victory in four sets; 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 26-24. The Bulls had a quartet of hitters in double-digits, led by Dana Musil and Christine Fritsche with 15 apiece, while Abby Niekamp and Liz Scott had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Niekamp also led Buffalo with an impressive .476 hitting percentage (13-3-21). Setter Dani Reinert posted 53 assists and libero Kelly Svoboda had 23 digs.

Cornell (2-7) was led by Kelly Marble with 12 kills, while Madeleine Przybyl finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. Przybyl also added a team-high five blocks. Reeder finished the game with 33 assists and libero Risa Ka'awa led the team with 21 digs.

In the nightcap against Syracuse, the Big Red jumped out to a 25-23 victory in the first set before the Orange came back to win the next three, 25-13, 25-21, 25-12.

Reeder had another solid outing with 39 assists and spread the ball around as three Cornell players registered double-digit kills. Meagan Tatum led the way with 14 kills, while Rachel D'Epagnier and Janel Forte finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. D'Epagnier also posted an impressive .455 hitting percentage (11-1-22) to go along with four blocks.

Reeder also led the team with 15 digs, with Ka'awa finishing with 14 and Natasha Rowland registering 13.

Syracuse (9-4) was led by Andrea Fisher's 18-kill, 16-dig double-double, while Samantha Hinz tallied 17 kills and posted a .484 hitting percentage (17-2-31). Setter Laura Homann finished with 52 assists and 12 digs as one of four Orange players to register double-digit digs.

Cornell returns home for the first time in 20 days when it welcomes Binghamton to Newman Arena on Friday, Sept. 23 for a contest at 7 p.m. The Big Red opens Ivy League play the following day as it battles Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.
