ITHACA, N.Y. -- SMU rallied from an early deficit and stunned Cornell 17-15 on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red fell to 5-4 with the loss.
The SMU Mustangs came to town with an upset in mind and got what they came for. Without starter

Branden Van Loon and Nick Stieg took off to a 5-1 lead afterthe first chukker. The Mustangs made a run to pull within one in the second, but the Big Red responded by increasing its lead to 9-6 at the half. The third chukker was the Big Red's undoing as SMU doubled the Big Red up and went into the fourth tied at 12-12. SMU pulled out to a two goal lead twice that Cornell cut to one and even had chances to tie, but were not able to find the goal. The Mustangs tacked on a late goal to take the upset.
Van Loon had nine goals for the Big Red while Stieg added three and Pardell notched one with two penalty goals awarded to Cornell in the fourth chukker.
