Polo Teams Ready For Busy Weekend Ahead

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's polo teams will be back in action this weekend when they play host to the University of Connecticut at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red and the Huskies will renew rivalries that traditionally have decided the Eastern Regional championships.

The men's game will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., when the women will play on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The women will also visit Skidmore on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The men will be playing the back end of a home-and-home series with UConn after topping the Huskies 26-11 last weekend in Storrs, Conn. Cornell pulled away after halftime, outscoring UConn 15-4 in the final two chukkers to improve to 2-1. David Eldredge, who has amassed an impressive 387-163-8 record (.700) in his 27 years on the sidelines with the men. Cornell and Connecticut meet several times annually as the top programs in the Northeast region. Dating back to 1978, Cornell holds a decisive 53-21-1 edge in the series against the Huskies.

The women bring a perfect 3-0 mark into the two-match weekend. Cornell, who has already defeated UMass, Virginia and Kentucky over its first three weekends. The 2011-12 national runner-up leads the all-time series against UConn 72-34-1, including wins in 12 of their last 13 meetings. The Huskies broke through to snap an 11-game losing skid last year in Storss during the regular season before the Big Red knocked off UConn for the Eastern Regional title. Eldredge brings a 427-119-17 record with the women's program.
