Another DiMagno Double-Double Helps Big Red To Road Win

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Allyson DiMagno led three Big Red players in double figures with 18 points and 14 rebounds as the Cornell women's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 74-56 win at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Wednesday evening. Cornell improved to 4-3 on the year, while the Terriers slipped to 2-2.

DiMagno posted her fourth double-double of the season and her third in the last four games with another big effort, adding five steals, two assists and a blocked shot. She made both 3-pointers and all 10 free throws. Over her last four contests, DiMagno is averaging 15.3 rebounds and is up to 13.0 boards per game on the year to rank among the nation's leaders.

The Big Red backcourt of Shelby Lyman (15 points, four assists) and Spencer Lane (12 points, four assists) combined for 27 points and eight assists while making 12-of-19 shots for an offense that shot 50 percent from the floor on the evening (26-of-52). Taylor Flynn added eight points and Clare Fitzpatrick had seven points and three boards.

Cornell's defense was also on display, as the visitors limited the Terriers to 34 percent shooting overall and 27 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-22). Sarah Benditti had 12 points to lead the home team, while Jessica Kaufman was also in double figures with 10.

The game was tied 8-8 when DiMagno put the Big Red into the lead for good with the second of two free throws less than four minutes into the game. That was part of a 12-2 run that featured seven points by the junior. The Big Red never trailed by fewer than five points, comfortably holding the advantage at 34-27 at the break.

Cornell pulled away after halftime, shooting 61 percent from the floor (14-of-23) and connecting on five 3-pointers. The Big Red brought the lead to double figures early on in the second 20-minute stanza and gradually extended it, pushed the edge to as many as 22 in the final four minutes before both teams got a chance to empty their benches.

The Big Red will look for its third win in its last four games when it plays host to Morgan State on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. at Newman Arena.
