NEW YORK, N.Y. — The women's squash team opened Ivy League play with a 9-0 whitewashing of Columbia on Sunday at SL Green StreetSquash Center, marking the third time through four matches that the Big Red has blanked its opponent. Sixth-ranked Cornell improved to 4-0, while dropping 14th-ranked Columbia in its season debut.

Reut Odinak (No. 9) got the match started with three-game victories, while sophomore
Rachel Au (No. 6) wrapped up the first rotation with another Cornell victory after battling back from a first-game loss. All matches in the middle rotation were decided in three games in favor of Cornell's
Jessenia Pacheco (No. 2),
Brynn Daniels (No. 5) and co-captain Maggie Remsen (No. 8). The match concluded with two more three-game victories from
Laura Caty (No. 7) and
Abbey Foster (No. 4). Sophomore
Danielle Letourneau (No. 1) then fought off Catherine Jenkins in the No. 1 match, 11-9, 10-12, 11-2, 11-6.
The Big Red improved to 2-0 all-time against the Lions in the programs' first-ever meeting in New York. Cornell has an extended hiatus for final exams and the holiday break before returning to action Jan. 12-13 with three matches at Belkin International Squash Courts against Yale, Brown and St. Lawrence.
