ITHACA, N.Y. – The men's tennis team swept all six doubles matches on Sunday, then never trailed in 4-3 victories over visiting St. John's and Fordham at Reis Tennis Center.
 
The doubleheader kicked off against St. John's, with all three doubles matches ending in identical 8-6 scores. The 35th-ranked pair of sophomore Venkat Iyer and freshman Alex Sidney won both of their matches at the No. 1 spot.
 
Iyer, ranked 98th in the country in singles, then gave the Big Red a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Milo Hauk at the No. 2 spot. Iyer typically competes at the No. 1 spot, but that task against St. John's was left to Sam Fleck who lost to Vasko Mladenov, the Northeast Region's top-ranked and nation's 29th-ranked singles player.
 
Sidney restored the Big Red's two-point lead with a 6-1, 7-6 win at the No. 5 spot, then freshman Quoc-Daniel Nguyen clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Ilija Vucic at No. 4.
 
After securing the doubles point again against Fordham, Cornell extended its lead to 3-0 with wins from Nguyen at No. 3 and freshman Jason Luu at No. 5. The Rams got on the board with a win at No. 2 before Sidney sewed up the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victory over J.J. Tauil at No. 4. Sidney is now 5-1 on the season.
 
The Big Red is back in action next weekend when it defends its title at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
