FAIRFAX, Va. -- Another day, another split. The Cornell softball team earned a weekend split and moved to 4-4 on the season with a 6-3 win over Hartford, followed by a 3-0 loss to George Mason on Sunday afternoon at the Mason Softball Complex.
Sam Creamer hit a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning for a walk-off victory in the first contest of the day to cap a fantastic first game that saw the Big Red rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie in the seventh. 
Lauren Marx was outstanding in relief in the circle, striking out six and scattering just three hits in the final 4.1 innings of work.
Erin Keene was 2-for-3 and six other Big Red players had base hits. Cornell didn't commit an error for the first time this seasonand the pitchign staff combined for 10 strikeouts, its second game this season with double figures in that category.
Cornell couldn't get things going in game two with the bats, as Mason improved to 3-0 against the Big Red this season. Keene again went 2-for-3, but no one else could muster more than a hit. The Big Red didn't allow an earned run in the circle, with 
Jenna Stoller scattering four hits in 4.2 innings with 
Brittany Sutton getting the final four outs.
The Big Red put runners on first and second with no one out in the fifth inning and loaded the bases with no one out in the sixth, but couldn't put across a run in either inning.
The Big Red will head back down to Fairfax for the third and final weekend when it competes in the Mason Cherry Blossom Classic on March 17-18/ The Big Red will play two games against the Patriots, as well as single contests against Bowling Green and Albany.
