FAIRFAX, Va. -- After three weekends of competing at George Mason to start the season, the Cornell softball team will enter Spring Break week the same place it was after day one ... right back at .500. For the sixth straight competition day to open the season, the Big Red split a doubleheader, dropping a 1-0 contest to Albany in game one before taking home a 7-4 contest over the host Patriots in the nightcap.

After falling behind 1-0 after the top half of the first in game two, Cornell scored two in the first and three in the second to build a lead to split the day. Erin Keene hit her second home run of the season with two outs in the first to get the Big Red going, and a Christina Villalon double scored Christina Towne to put the Big Red ahead for good. Edwards then delivered the big blow in the second with a three-run homer with two outs. Keene also had a key two-run single in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Keene finished the day 2-for-4 eith three RBI, while Edwards also drove in three. Villalon had a pair of doubles. Lauren Marx earned the victory with 5.2 innings of work, while Brittany Sutton pitched a hitless final 1.1 innings to pick up the save.

In game one, Jenna Stoller and Alyson Onyon allowed just four hits, but two walks, two Albany stolen bases and a sacrifice fly in the third inning was all the Great Danes would need behind Brittany MacFawn. The sophomore hurler scattered four hits and struck out 12 Big Red hitters. Linda Laeufer, Keene and Villalon each singled, while Edwards had a single and walked as the lone Big Red hitter to reach base safely twice.
