Syracuse Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Syracuse got off to an early lead in both games and cruised to a doubleheader sweep in Wednesday afternoon softball action against Cornell at Niemand*Robison Field. The Orange improved to 26-9 with a 10-1 win in six innings in game one, then polished off the Big Red (16-15) 8-1 in the nightcap.

Cornell managed just six hits in the two games against Orange pitching, including just one hit in game one. Erin Keene had an RBI triple in the fourth to score the Big Red's lone run in the victory. Jenna Stoller was effective after allowing a walk and a home run to lead off the game. She allowed just one hit and struck out eight in the rest of her four innings of work.

Sarah McCormack went 2-for-3 and freshman Linda Laeufer was 1-for-3 with the team;s lone run in game two. Lauren Bucolo, who had a double, and Christina Villalon also each had hits in the second contest.

Cornell will attempt to get back on the winning track on Saturday, April 14 at 12:30 p.m. when it begins a four-game set with Ivy foe Columbia at Niemand*Robison Field.
