ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's tennis team ended a long doubles drought, then made quick work of the lower half of its singles lineup to secure a 5-2 victory Friday over visiting Penn, the squad's second consecutive Ivy League win.
 
The freshman tandems of Sam Fleck and Danny Riggs (No. 2) and Jason Luu and Quoc-Daniel Nguyen (No. 3) each won their respective doubles matches 8-4, giving the Big Red its first doubles point in eight matches. It was just the second time this season that either combination was used together in dual competition.
 
Cornell (9-15, 2-4 Ivy) then made quick work of the Nos. 4-6 singles tilts to clinch the match before Penn (10-9, 2-4) could get on the board. Freshman Alex Sidney was the first to finish off a singles match, defeating Jason Lin, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot. Luu's victory at No. 4 wasn't far behind, coming with a 6-3, 6-1 score over Zach Katz.
 
Nguyen then assured the Big Red of the win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jason Magnes at No. 6. It was Nguyen's fourth straight win, tying him for the longest active streak with Fleck. Cornell's other point on the day came courtesy of Fleck at No. 2 in lengthy three-setter, 6-7, 6-2, (10-4).
 
The Big Red now has five consecutive league victories over the Quakers, having also won 13 of the last 15 meetings. Cornell will wrap up its season on the road Sunday at Princeton.
