ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior Erin Keene and junior Erin Bellese each slammed two home runs, but Albany hit the 20-win mark with a doubleheader sweep of Cornell on Tuesday afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. Albany won game one 7-1, then earned an 8-6 triumph in eight innings in the nightcap.

The Great Danes (20-7) got a monster afternoon from Charlise Castro, who was 6-of-8 with a double, a triple, two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. She also stole a base.

The Big Red couldn't solve Brittany Schwieger in game one, with only a solo shot by Belles in the fourth inning getting Cornell on the board. Trailing 5-1 in the sixth, the Big Red loaded with bases with no one out, bringing the tying run to the plate three times before Schwieger struck out the side to end Cornell's rally. Castro put the game away with a blast to center to put the game out of reach. Cornell loaded the bases again in the seventh, but couldn't plate a run.

Game two saw Cornell lead 5-1 heading into the fifth before the Great Danes struck for three to get back within one. Keene and Belles hit back-to-back homers in the second to put the Big Red up 2-0. After Albany got a run back in the fourth on a solo shot by Castro, the Big Red scored three more in the fourth. A two-run double by Katie Watts and an RBI single by Jenny Edwards made it 5-1.

Albany tied the contest at 6-6 after an RBI single by Kylie Apostolina, who then scored on a base hit by Alexa Toole. With darkness quickly coming, it was decided to use the international tiebreaker once it hit the eighth inning, and Castro led off the eighth with an RBI double to open the frame. She then scored on a single up the middle by Apostolina. Cornell went quietly, 1-2-3, in the bottom of the inning.

Cornell hits the road for Ivy League action beginning on Friday, April 6 when it heads to Brown for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
