NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Cornell softball team rallied for a game one win and used that momentum in game two to complete a sweep of Yale on Saturday afternoon at Dewitt Family Field. The Big Red won a thriller 8-6 in game one before triumphing 8-5 in game two. Cornell improved to 16-13 (7-1 Ivy), while the Bulldogs slipped to 7-21 (1-7 Ivy).

Cornell rallied from a 5-0 deficit in game one and scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to squeeze past the Bulldogs. Christina Villalon hammered a two-out, three-run home run that proved to be the game winner after Linda Laeufer hit a one-out solo shot to keep Cornell alive. Erin Keene and Katie Watts also slammed long balls in the fourth inning to give the visitors four home runs on the afternoon.

Sammy Roth did yeoman's work out of the bullpen in the opener, scattering six hits while allowing just one run in 3.2 innings of relief to pick up her first collegiate win. She held the Bulldogs at bay to allow Cornell to come back and handed the ball off to Lauren Marx in the seventh. The senior struck out the only two batters she faced to close out the win.

Yale did plenty to win the game, but its 13 hits and three walks drawn couldn't overcome 12 runners left on base. Cornell, meanwhile, cashed in with the long ball and six total extra-base hits.

Edwards was 2-for-4 with a double, while Laeufer had a double and a home run. Keene was 1-for-2 with two run scored along with her big fly.

Game two saw Laeufer go 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI as Cornell used another big inning, this time a four-run fifth, to run away with the victory. Villalon also 2-for-4 a double and two RBI in the nightcap to make a winner out of Alyson Onyon, who improved to 7-3. Marx struck out the only batter she faced to earn saves in both ends of the doubleheader.

Cornell returns home for a pair of non-conference games against Syracuse on Wednesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. at Niemand*Robison Field.
