ITHACA, N.Y. – The freshman doubles team of
Sam Fleck and
Jason Luu defeated a nationally ranked tandem from Harvard on Saturday, but the Crimson went on to a 7-0 victory at Reis Tennis Center.
Fleck and Luu improved to 9-2 on the season, though this was their first match at the No. 1 spot. The Big Red team defeated Harvard's Casey MacMaster and Alistair Felton, who comprise the country's 44th-ranked doubles team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Harvard (17-1, 1-0 Ivy League) was able to win the other two doubles matches to secure the opening point, then swept all six singles tilts. Fleck and Luu took their singles matches – at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively – to a third set before eventually being defeated.
Cornell (7-13, 0-2 Ivy) will look to end a five-match losing streak at 2 p.m. Sunday against visiting Dartmouth.
