ITHACA, N.Y. – Former Cornell men's lightweight rowing captain Matt Rung '10 has returned to East Hill to join the coaching staff, announced
Chris Kerber, the Henry E. Bartels '48 Head Coach of Lightweight Rowing. Rung has spent the past two seasons working for the University of Washington (2011-12) and Princeton (2010-11) heavyweight rowing teams.
“Without a doubt, Matt brings a lot of passion and experience back to Cornell after his two year hiatus,” said Kerber. “Matt's intensity and work ethic will help continue the Cornell lightweights success in our very competitive league.”
As a student-athlete, Rung competed all four years for the Big Red, helping Cornell to a gold medal in the men's varsity pair at the 2008 Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships. At the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in 2008 he took gold in the senior lightweight men's straight four. During that same event in 2006, Rung took home gold in the senior lightweight men's eight.
Throughout his career Rung has accumulated eight years of competitive rowing experience, been certified in advanced CPR and AED for professional rescuers, and achieved a US Level 3 Certified Rowing Coach.
