ITHACA, N.Y. – Brittany Thompson scored in the 42nd minute and Cornell goalie Carolyn Horner made two  late saves to help the Big Red field hockey team defeat Siena, 1-0, this afternoon on Marsha Dodson Field. With the win, Cornell improves to 3-6 on the season.

For the second consecutive game, the Big Red completely carried the play and dictated the pace, but struggled to put the ball in the net. Cornell finally broke the stalemate when Kat DiPastina stole the ball on the Siena half of the field and found Thompson just outside the circle. The junior forward carried the ball to the center-top of the circle and then ripped a reverse stick shot into the net.

Just over 10 minutes later, Horner was called on to make her first save of the contest.  She finished the day with two saves to earn her third shutout of the season.

Siena's goalie Beth Meyers was solid, making 11 saves to keep the Saints in the contest.

Cornell held the 22-4 edge in shots and had a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Big Red will hit the road for a midweek matchup with in-state rival Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
