ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team earned a pair of 9-0 victories on Sunday against Brown and St. Lawrence to improve to 6-1 on the season. Freshman
Reut Odinak cruised to three-game victories in both of her matches to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season, while classmate
Abbey Foster also won two matches over the weekend to go 6-0.
Against ninth-ranked Brown, sixth-ranked Cornell won seven of the matches in three games and never trailed in the other two tilts. Foster (No. 4) won her contest with matching 11-3 scores to improve to 6-0 on the season before taking the afternoon off in the Big Red's clash with St. Lawrence.
With its top four players resting, the Big Red dropped just one games over its nine matches with the 26th-ranked Saints.
Olivia Wherry (No. 5) won her second scoring match of the season, as did
Kristin Scillia (No. 9).
Sydney Chirls (No. 8) and
Alexandra Glassman (No. 6) won their season debuts.
On Saturday, the Big Red had its best showing against perennial power Yale in 13 years before eventually falling, 6-3.
Freshmen Foster (No. 4) and Odinak (No. 9) won their respective matches, and
Jessenia Pacheco (No. 2) accounted for the other Big Red point. It was the first time Cornell has taken three points off Yale since Jan. 20, 2001, which was the only time the Big Red has defeated the Bulldogs in the programs' all-time series.
Odinak was in control from start-to-finish in her match, winning in four games, while classmate
Brynn Daniels won her first game at the No. 6 spot before falling in four. Senior co-captain
Jaime Laird fought back to twice to even up her match at No. 3 before falling in the decisive fifth game, 12-10.
None of the first six matches were decided in three games, but the Big Red fell behind, 4-2, with a pair of five-game losses in the middle rotation. Meanwhile, Pacheco rallied from an 11-8 defeat in the opening game of her match to lock down the hosts' second point. The match was the first time in four showdowns that the Big Red wasn't blanked by the Bulldogs, who were runners-up for last year's national title.
