ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's hockey player Alyssa Gaglardi spent some of her winter break participating in the 2012 U.S. Women's National Team Winter Camp in Blaine, Minn.

Gagliardi, a junior alternate captain for the Big Red, has two goals and six assists this season while playing both her native defense as well as some time at center. Her eight points put her tied for sixth on the Cornell roster, and she has played in every game this season.

“This camp is a critical step in our player evaluation process as we look ahead to the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship,” Reagan Carey, USA Hockey's director of women's hockey, said in a press release. “It's an extremely competitive camp that allows our top 36 players to compete at the highest level.”

Thirty-six total players were selected for the Winter Camp, and they were divided into two teams of 18 for three intrasquad scrimmages. Gagliardi was on the camp's White Team with three other current ECAC Hockey rivals.

The camp, which took place from Dec. 26-31, included two days of physical fitness testing, practice and three games. Gagliardi was the only player at the camp from North Carolina.
