ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior forwards Cole Bardreau and Madison Dias each had two goals and an assist, leading the 19th-ranked men's hockey team to a 7-2 victory against York on Saturday night at Lynah Rink in the team's only preseason exhibition.

Cornell killed off an early five-minute shorthanded situation, then was 4-for-9 on the power play to bury a York team that has started its league play 4-0. The Big Red scored the first five goals of the game and held a decisive advantage in shots on goal, 53-10.

The Big Red got the scoring going about halfway through the opening frame, as Bardreau found the twine in his first game back since a season-ending injury last January. With the Lions on the power play, a York defender turned over the puck at his attacking blue line. Dias picked up the puck and fed Bardreau up the middle in stride. Bardreau beat York goalie Andrew Perugini on the backhand to the top shelf to give Cornell an early lead and kick off a span of three goals in eight minutes.

Four minutes later, the Big Red solved the York defense once again. This time, Cornell had sustained pressure in the offensive zone for a minute or so, when freshman forward Jake Weidner fed sophomore forward Teemu Tiitinen from out of the left corner. Tiitinen picked up the puck on his off wing, turned, fired and beat Perugini off the post and in to his glove side.

A familiar face put the Big Red up by three late with just 38 seconds left in the frame. Junior forward Joel Lowry pulled off a dazzling move while streaking down the left wing, then fed Bardreau for an easy tap-in goal on the power play.

The Big Red would pick up the scoring in the second period a little bit after the five-minute mark, once again on the power play. Senior defenseman Kirill Gotovets would start the play with a dump-in into the offensive zone. Classmate Dustin Mowrey picked up the puck behind the net, then fed sophomore forward John Knisley in the slot, who finished with a backhander past Perugini's blocker.

Cornell would put the game out of reach a little more than three minutes later with the man advantage when sophomore Christian Hilbrich finished off a brilliant passing play from Bardreau. Junior defenseman Jacob MacDonald had the secondary assist on the goal. Senior goalie Andy Iles was pulled following the second period in favor of freshman netminder Mitch Gillam. Iles stopped all eight shots he faced to receive the victory.

The third period saw Dias add a couple of goals for the Big Red, including yet another on the power play.

The Big Red will open up its regular season schedule next weekend when it travels to The Cornhusker State to take on Nebraska Omaha in a pair of games Oct. 25-26.
