Hoyt Stanley have signed three-year entry-level contracts with the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators, respectively, the organizations announced Monday evening.
Both contracts will begin with the 2026-27 season as Castagna (Calgary Wranglers) and Stanley (Belleville Senators) will report to their teams' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates on amateur tryout contracts (ATO).
Originally selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (70th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft, Castagna's rights were transferred to the Utah Hockey Club ahead of the franchise's inaugural 2024-25 NHL season. On March 4, Calgary acquired Castagna in a trade that sent MacKenzie Weegar to Utah in exchange for Olli Määttä, Castagna and three second-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft.
"Signing the contract was a dream come true and I haven't been able to stop smiling since," Castagna said. "The Flames organization has welcomed me in like family and I'm so excited to get started.
"I owe my life to Cornell and the men's hockey program and I will stay forever in touch with the people I met there and the profound impact it has had on my life."
Concluding this past season with a team- and career-high 34 points (15-19—34), Castagna led the Big Red in goals (15), points (34), short-handed goals (3) and plus-minus (plus-25). Nationally, his 65.2 faceoff win percentage (439-of-673) led all Division I forwards with at least 100 faceoff wins. His three short-handed goals were tied for the second-most in Division I and the most by a Big Red player since Mike Iggulden in 2004-05.
Castagna appeared in 101 career games with the Big Red over the past three years and accrued 74 points (31-43—74), while amassing a plus-45 rating, winning 60.4 percent of his faceoffs (949-of-1570) and blocking 70 shots. He was one of three Division I players to have at least a 60.0 percent success rate on faceoffs during that span.
"Jonny represents everything we want in a Cornell player and was a huge part of our culture here,"
Casey Jones '90, the Jay R. Bloom '77 Head Coach of Cornell Men's Ice Hockey, said. "He had a fantastic year and should be ready for the next step."
Stanley, a fourth-round pick (108th overall) by Ottawa in the 2023 NHL Draft, spoke about what Cornell has meant to him after signing his entry-level contract.
"I'm excited to start my pro career and would like to thank the Ottawa Senators organization for their belief and this opportunity," Stanley said. "It was a hard decision to leave Cornell as I spent the best three years of my life here and it became like a second home for me. The program is first class and I'll be forever grateful for the incredible coaching staff and their work ethic. I'll miss playing in front of the Lynah Faithful."
Coming off a career season in which he totaled 15 points (3-12—15), Stanley blocked a team-leading 44 shots and was named one of three finalists for ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Defenseman award. Two of his three goals served as game-winners against Princeton (Jan. 16) and Clarkson (Feb. 28). Over three seasons with the Big Red, Stanley recorded 38 points (7-31—38) across 104 career games, while posting a plus-32 rating and blocking 113 shots.
"Exciting times for our program getting to see some players achieve a childhood dream of signing NHL contracts," Jones said. "Hoyt has worked hard and has made progress every year. We are excited to watch him take this step and want to thank him for three great years with the Big Red."
