After the Big Red jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead, Holy Cross responded with three consecutive goals in a 14 minute spurt in the second half to take the lead. Freshman
Katy Weeks scored in the 65th minute of regulation to force overtime and sophomore
Marisa Siergiej scored just 1:26 into the extra stanza to steal the victory.
Weeks finished with a goal and two assists to lead Cornell with a career-high four points, while
Mallory Bannon registered one goal and assisted on Siergiej's game-winner.
Katherine Stone also scored for the Big Red.
Cornell (4-5) held the significant 18-5 edge in shots and earned eight corners to the Crusaders' two. Holy Cross was kept in the game by goalie Kat Matchett, who made 10 saves, six of which came in the second half as the home team made its comeback.
The Big Red wasted little time in taking the 1-0 lead, as Weeks passed the ball from the right side of the circle back to the center to Stone, who converted at the 1:32 mark with her third goal of the season.
Just over 12 minutes later, Weeks set up another goal when she sent the ball all the way across the circle to
Mallory Bannon, who one-timed it into the net to give the visitors the 2-0 lead.
Holy Cross (3-8) earned it first goal of the day in the 40th minute when Katy Cronin scored to make it 2-1. Less than five minutes later, the Crusaders knotted the game when Kaitlyn Murray tipped in a shot from Molly Feit.
The home team took the lead in the 54th minute when Lauren Sutherland scored off a pass from Colby Lohrey, but Cornell took a timeout to regroup and the offense came alive in the closing minutes, forcing Matchett to make three saves over the ensuing 10 minutes before Weeks tied the game.
The Big Red returns home for a midweek matchup with instate rival Colgate on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m., before traveling to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
