Princeton Hands Women’s Basketball First Conference Loss Of The Season

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton women's basketball team used some hot shooting and solid rebounding to extend its Ivy League winning streak to 26 games while  handing the Big Red its first conference loss of the season, defeating Cornell, 77-46, this evening in Newman Arena. With the loss, the Big Red slips to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Clare Fitzpatrick led Cornell with 11 points, while Taylor Flynn and Spencer Lane finished with nine and eight points, respectively. Allyson DiMagno chipped in seven points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go along with five steals and Stephanie Long had a solid effort with two points, five rebounds, three assists and three steal.

Princeton (11-5, 2-0I Ivy) was led by Niveen Rasheed's 21 points, while Blake Dietrick added 17 points and five assists. Meg Bowen was also in double-figures for the Tigers (12) and Lauren Polansky pulled down eight rebounds.

The Tigers connected on 59 percent of its shots, including 31 percent from 3-point range, while holding Cornell to 31 percent overall and just 15 percent from beyond the arc. Princeton also held the significant 42-26 advantage on the backboards.

Cornell forced the Tigers into 19 turnovers with 11 steals and the home team turned the ball over just 15 times.

The Big Red is back in action tomorrow evening, Saturday, Feb. 2, when it welcomes Penn to Newman Arena for a contest at 7 p.m.
