PHILADELPHIA — Sophomores
Danielle Letourneau and
Lindsay Seginson won their matches Sunday, as the women's squash team wrapped up its regular season with a 7-2 loss to Penn with the Howe Cup national championship on the horizon.
Seginson won a marathon five-game match at the No. 8 spot. After Seginson won a pair of tight games to start off, Penn's Carey Celata roared back to force a deciding fifth set. Seginson won that, 11-8, to secure the first point of the match for sixth-ranked Cornell (12-5, 3-4 Ivy).
Letourneau took care of the Big Red's other point against third-ranked Penn (12-2, 5-2 Ivy) at her customary post at the No. 1 spot. Letourneau cruised to a three-game victory over Nabilla Ariffin, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4. Letourneau finished last season ranked ninth in the country, while Ariffin was 13th.
Cornell, which has already tied a program record for victories in a season, will be back in action next weekend at the Howe Cup, hosted by Yale. Seeding for the eight-team tournament will be released this week, with first-round play scheduled for Friday.
