NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The women's squash team earned a sixth-place national finish for a second consecutive season after suffering a 6-3 loss to Yale in the consolation final of the Howe Cup. Cornell (13-7) finished with a program record for victories in a season, thanks to a 5-4 Saturday victory over seventh-seeded Stanford in the consolation semifinals.

The Big Red earned one point in each shift Sunday. Freshman Reut Odinak got the match started with a four-game victory at the No. 9 spot over Katie Harrison. Cornell came close to taking a lead after the first three matches before its entry eventually fell in five games at the No. 8 spot.

Junior Jessenia Pacheco kept the Big Red within striking distance after the second rotation. Pacheco split the first two games with Annie Ballaine at No. 2 before pulling away in four games.

But Yale, which was the fifth seed, clinched the match with two more victories in the final shift. Freshman Abbey Foster locked down the Big Red's final point of the match after a dominating 11-1 victory in the first game of her No. 4 match before taking down Gwendoline Tilghman in three games.

Up next for the Big Red will be the College Squash Association National Individual Championships from March 1-3, hosted by Trinity.
